CHARLESTON (JG-TC) — A shooting on Sunday injured one person, according to city police.
Officers were dispatched at 11:59 p.m. that day to the 1400 block of 10th Street in reference to a shots fired call and found and identified a victim, who police have not named. The victim was transported to Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center with a non-life threatening wound and later released, Charleston police officials report.
Braxton J. Johnson, 22, of Charleston, formerly Chicago, was arrested in connection with the shooting.
While responding, officers observed a vehicle leaving the area, according to police. Police stopped the vehicle in the 900 block of Grant Avenue.
The traffic stop led to the arrest of Brandon L. Hightower, 22, of Charleston, formerly Danville, and Johnson, police say.
Police said officers who stopped the vehicle smelled the odor of cannabis emanating from within. A search revealed over two pounds of cannabis in a bag in the vehicle.
