An undercover drug investigation dubbed “Operation Eclipse” led to the arrest of 70 people and the seizure of more than $100,000 cash and 21 firearms in Sumter County.
“We have arrested 70 people,” Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis said. “And more arrests are expected. We still have 20 outstanding warrants.”
The sheriff’s office conducted a six-month undercover drug operation that resulted in quantities of methamphetamine, opiates, marijuana, cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin, and firearms being seized.
Dennis said the operation lasted several months because so many people were involved.
“Any time we have an operation of this magnitude, we solicit the assistance from other agencies,” he said. “All of us work together well. We always want to help each other.”
Dennis said the arrests should be a warning to others who think that drugs, illegal weapons and other crimes are the way to a successful future.
