A compliance check of Bluffton businesses for underage alcohol sales resulted in two violations.
The Bluffton Police Department’s special investigations unit, with assistance from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, checked 15 businesses July 28.
Agave Bar in the Promenade and Hinchey’s Bar & Grill on Buckwalter Parkway were cited for selling alcohol to an underage person who was working with police.
“If during a compliance check youth are able to successfully buy from the establishment, the business is cited,” Bluffton police spokesperson Joy Nelson said.
Police reported that the businesses that passed the check were Breland Liquors Too, Bluewater Convenience Store, Baleada Express, Fat Patties, FARM, Calhoun’s, Corner Perk, The Cottage, Old Town Dispensary, R-Bar, British Open Pub, Belfair Fine Wine and Spirits, and NYC Pizza.
Each business ticketed was given a criminal violation and an administrative violation. Each criminal violation ticket was in the amount of $470, and the administrative fine is set by the Department of Revenue. It can vary depending on if the establishment has been fined in the past.
