CHARLESTON – West Virginia’s Medical Cannabis Advisory Board is scheduled to meet for the first time this week.
The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, Bureau for Public Health will hold the first meeting Wednesday, Aug. 16, at the University of Charleston’s Erma Byrd Gallery.
According to the DHHR, the purpose of the meeting is to discuss organizational structure, first-year program work plan and significant milestones. The meeting will be open to the public and will include a public comment period.
Dr. Rahul Gupta, commissioner and state Health Officer for DHHR’s Bureau for Public Health, will chair the meeting.
The advisory board includes Gupta, the chairman, as well as a dozen other physicians, pharmacists, and a social worker, prosecutor, patient advocate and horticulturalist. Representing Huntington on the board will be Dr. Avinder Bir, a hematology and oncology specialist with HIMG, and Dr. Rudy Malayil, a pain relief specialist with St. Mary’s Medical Center.
