CHARLESTON — A man was arrested in Charleston Tuesday afternoon after he barricaded himself in an apartment, according to the Charleston Police Department.
Officers responded to a burglary call around 12:45 at the 900 block of Leslie Road in Charleston.
Deon Henning, 24, of Charleston, had broken into an apartment. Police said he threw a brick at a first floor window to gain access to the building.
Officers, along with a K-9, had arrived on the scene to find Henning had barricaded himself in a second floor bedroom of the apartment. He was speaking to officers through an open window, police said.
Police said Henning’s mother lived in the apartment.
Officers obtained a key from the property manager to get into the apartment, then kicked down the door to the bedroom, according to police.
At the time of his arrest, police found a needle in Henning’s pocket and suspected he was high on synthetic marijuana or flakka, police said.
Henning was charged with burglary following his arrest.
