Fleeing driver crashes
An attempt to cite a motorist for speeding turned into a chase, that turned into a crash and then turned into a lot of charges.
A city police officer was on patrol on Robertson Boulevard at North Jefferies Boulevard when he reportedly spotted a driver traveling 70 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour zone Oct. 8 at 2:42 a.m. When the driver spotted the cruiser, his speedometer started climbing. He was up to 80 miles per hour when he ran the red light at Robertson and Wichman, and the officer hit his blue lights and siren. The chase continued until the 8900 block of Round O Road when the fleeing driver lost control of his car. After wrecking, he exited the vehicle and took off running. He was taken into custody a short time later.
Three females, who were occupants of the fleeing vehicle, were taken to Colleton Medical Center for treatment and later released. The driver also went to
