Delta’s first cannabis store located in a retail zone has moved another step closer to reality.
Following an afternoon public hearing, council at its regular meeting on Monday, gave third reading for an application to open a non-medical cannabis dispensary at the Delta Shoppers Mall at 8077 Scott Road.
Earlier this year, Platinum Projects, on behalf of Inspired Cannabis Co., applied to rezone a 2,740 square-foot commercial retail unit at the North Delta shopping plaza.
That application was put on hold by Delta until the city finished dealing with an application by Seed & Stone to open a private cannabis dispensary at 616 Chester Road, located on Annacis Island.
Council would go on to give the green light for the Annacis Island outlet.
At the public hearing, Harp Hoonjan with Platinum Projects said they’ve been working as consultants for Inspired Cannabis Co. seeking appropriate sites in commercial hubs for dispensaries, including several in Delta.
The location chosen is seen as ideal with its easy access and central location, he said.
He also described the owners of Inspired Cannabis as having family values and wanting to become part of the communities they serve.
