A Johns Island man who recently finished a prison sentence in connection with a fatal shooting has been jailed on charges of shooting 10 times at a man who sold him a problematic used car.
Chad Montrelle Cohen, 26, of Betsy Kerrison Parkway, faces several charges, including attempted murder, illegally carrying a firearm and drug possession. He remained jailed Friday in lieu of $370,000 bail.
Cohen pleaded guilty in 2014 to a count of accessory after murder in the killing three years earlier of James Murphy, 32, in North Charleston. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison but he wasn’t required to serve the entire term. He was released in late April after spending about six years behind bars, state prison paperwork showed.
His brother, Randall Cohen, had pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the shooting and was sentenced to eight years in prison. He also is no longer imprisoned, records showed.
The uninjured victim of the recent shooting, a 38-year-old man, told the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office he had sold a black Lincoln Town Car to Chad Cohen.
