Two people were charged after a 2-month-old girl showed up at a South Carolina emergency room with severe brain injuries, according to reports.
Greenville County deputies began investigating after the infant was brought to the Greenville Memorial Hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit with “severe head trauma,” according to the Greenville News.
Warrants say the baby’s injuries stemmed from a violent assault by her father, 38-year-old Robert Alan Beach, who was under the influence of methamphetamine and marijuana “while in a position of trust with the child,” according to Fox Carolina.
Beach was charged with child abuse with great bodily harm, Fox Carolina reported.
The infant’s mother, 40-year-old Pamela Sherlin Kimmons, was charged with child neglect after investigators learned she did not render aid to the baby and allowed Beach to supervise the girl “with knowledge he was under the influence of drugs,” according to WSPA.
Kimmons was released from jail on $50,000 bond, according to Greenville County court records. Beach remains jailed without bond.
The baby was placed in the custody of the S.C. Department of Social Services, according to
