(WCIV) — Two police with the City of Charleston Police Department were shot at Saturday when they attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
According to Charles Francis, Charleston Police’s public information officer, the incident happened at around 11:45 a.m. on 1840 Carriage Lane.
The two officers were in the parking lot of 1367 Ashley River Road when they said a car slowly passed by them that smelled strongly of marijuana according to Francis.
After seeing the car pass by, officers tried to conduct a traffic stop at 1840 Carriage Lane said Francis.
Police said the car then fled the scene and almost struck a pedestrian.
Officers said they then followed the car into the Palmilla Apartments at 1385 Ashley River Road.
It was at this moment that the front passenger fired several shots at the officers, officers reported.
Officers said they were able to apprehend the front and rear passenger, but are still searching for the driver and
