A South Carolina man wanted for attempted murder was charged with stealing a vehicle in Thomasville on Christmas, then leading a high-speed chase which ended in an exchange of gunfire and a manhunt in Virginia that closed Interstate 95 for several hours, according to the Thomasville Police Department.
Jerrell C. Richardson, 21, of Greenville, South Carolina, faces one felony count of eluding police, one felony count of assault on a police officer, possession of marijuana, driving without a valid operator’s license, reckless driving and operating a vehicle without headlights. The attempted murder charge stems from an incident in Greenville, South Carolina, on Dec. 23, according to police.
Thomasville Police said that at 6:08 p.m. on Christmas Day, officers responded to the Sheetz on Liberty Drive in reference to an armed robbery.
The victim told police he had stopped at Sheetz to make a purchase inside the store while his girlfriend stayed in the car. According to authorities, The victim said he returned to his vehicle and noticed a black male approaching on foot in the rear
